April 18, 2003 -- He's still getting his paycheck from New York Law School, but perv professor Edward Samuels' conviction for possessing a massive stash of child porn has cost him something - his law license, The Post has learned.

Samuels, a lawyer for the past 28 years, was automatically disbarred Monday when he pleaded guilty to 100 counts of possessing kiddie porn, a felony.

Prosecutors said he had crammed well over 100,000 vile photos onto his various computers, including pictures of babies being sexually assaulted, young girls being raped and children being whipped.

Under state judiciary law, the conviction means the professor isn't allowed to apply for reinstatement to the bar for seven years.

Samuels, 53, is free pending his sentencing before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Brenda Soloff in June, and is still on paid leave from New York Law, where he's taught for the past 26 years.

His sick collection was discovered by two techs when he brought his computer into the school for service.

Jim Helligaard, a spokesman for the school, said Samuels "was placed on administrative leave the moment the material was discovered on the computer. We reported this finding to the proper authorities as required by law."

He added that Samuels "has not taught at the law school since then and is not scheduled to do so," but he is still getting a check "because he has a tenured contract."

"He cannot be removed from his job until a determination is made through the process required by his contract and established faculty rules," Helligaard said.

On the day Samuels was busted, the school's dean, Richard Matasar, issued a statement saying he was "saddened" by the professor's arrest and announcing the law school had put him on paid leave "so that he may attend to his defense."
