Getches Named CU Law School Dean

David Getches has been named the new dean of the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law. Getches has been on the school's faculty since 1979 and is the Raphael J. Moses Professor of Natural Resources Law.

Getches replaces Harold H. Bruff, who is returning to teaching after serving as dean for the past seven years. Getches said his main goal is the build a new law school building.

"The new law school is stalled because of the state's dearth of capital construction money. About half the cost is being borne by the students and private donors; most of those funds are in the bank or promised," he said in a statement.

According to CU, Getches is an expert in natural resources and Indian law issues. From 1983-1987, he was executive director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources.

Getches, 60, will be paid $225,000 a year.
