Law school must raise $5 million or face closure

The Presidents College School of Law must raise $5 million in the next two months or it will be forced to close its doors, the school announced Friday.

"If the final fundraising effort is not successful, the college will discontinue its quest for (American Bar Association) accreditation and its juris doctor program, effective July 31," the college said in a statement.

College officials estimate it will take $15 million to $25 million in improvements to meet ABA accreditation guidelines. Without accreditation, graduates cannot take the Kansas bar exam or practice law in the state.

Dixie Madden, the college's dean, said several colleges have looked into the possibility of taking over the program, but all concluded it would be too costly.
