Former law professor Edward Samuels, accused of having 150,000 pornographic images of children on his office and home computers, was sentenced Monday to six months in jail and 10 years probation.

Samuels pleaded guilty in April to 100 counts of possessing child pornography.

He admitted in court Monday that he had downloaded those photos. He asked State Supreme Court Justice Brenda Soloff to spare him a jail sentence so he could continue with therapy, and promised it would never happen again.

Samuels will be made a level-one offender in the state’s sex offender registry and was ordered to remain in psychotherapy.

Assistant District Attorney Maxine Rosenthal said authorities had found on Samuels’ computers 150,000 images of children who were nude or being sexually assaulted.

Samuels has resigned from his position as professor of copyright law at New York Law School.
