GRAND FORKS, N.D. A Florida State University law professor has been offered the dean's position at the University of North Dakota's law school.

Paul LeBel said Thursday he plans to visit Grand Forks next week before deciding whether to accept the job. He visited the UND campus in September for interviews.

"I was very encouraged by my campus visit," LeBel said. "It's a terrific school. I was really impressed with the people in the law school, with the excitement and energy in the university as a whole."

LeBel and Victor Streib, a law professor at Ohio Northern University in Ada, were finalists to succeed former dean Jeremy Davis, who left in January to become dean of a law school in rural Virginia.

LeBel was first hired at Florida State to be the law school's dean, but stepped down from the job after eight months because of his mother's illness. A native of Lake Worth, Fla., he has taught at law schools in Alabama, Illinois and Virginia.
